Bride looking into the eyes of the groom behind the castle - Atalaya Castle - Huntington Beach State Park

Rainy summer wedding day at the Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach State Park

It’s great to be getting back into wedding season in the Myrtle Beach area. I was a little worried that work would be very slow this year. This summer has been jam-packed with family beach pictures and even small weddings. It seems like most of my weddings, for the rest of the year, will take place with just some social distancing modifications. Some have had to reduce the number of guests, and some have moved the receptions outside to comply with venue requirements. So far, all my weddings have taken place without any issues. For Rylan and Sarah’s wedding, the …

Kiss under the moss - Live Oak Allee - Brookgreen Gardens

Small summer wedding at the Holliday Cottage in Brookgreen Gardens

I always love going to the Holliday Cottage at Brookgreen Gardens for weddings. The gates, leading to the “Youth Taming the Wild” statue, is such a beautiful location for a wedding ceremony. This Monday afternoon wedding was planned from the beginning to be a small event, with only family and close friends in attendance. This was a second wedding for both the bride and groom so they wanted to keep things simple. They even planned to have the small reception back at thier home in Pawleys Island. All of these original plans worked out perfectly with the current social distancing …

Bride and groom looking into each others eyes - Hidden Acres

Beautiful spring wedding at Hidden Acres in Marion, SC

This has been a very difficult year for brides and thier wedding plans with Covid-19 and the social distancing restrictions. Almost all of my May weddings had to reschedule for later in the year. Thankfully, for Heather and Ethan’s wedding on May 30th, many wedding venues around SC, including Hidden Acres, were beginning to open back up. In fact, by the time I’m making this blog post near the end of June, I’ve had one of the busiest summers I can remember. Heather had chosen my all-day wedding package with no hour restrictions, so my wife Lizeth and I arrived …

Autumn Chase Apartment unit photography for A1 Properties - Myrtle Beach

Photography of Apartments in Myrtle Beach for A1 Properties

With our current social distancing restrictions in SC from Covid-19, it’s impossible to do weddings and family pictures. It was great to get a call from Jessica at A1 Properties to take some pictures of recently remodeled apartments at Autumn Chase in Myrtle Beach and Sinclair Phase 2 in Conway. She actually found me because she was looking for something different than typical real estate photography. She searched for event photographers and fell in love with my various pictures I’ve taken around Myrtle Beach. I’m going to send her some of my landscape photography for use on her website as …

Bride backlit by the sun coming through her veil using fill flash - Pine Lakes Country Club

Beautiful bridal portraits at Pine Lakes Country Club

I always love getting to take bridal portraits before a wedding. The bride, in her wedding dress, is always a favorite subject of photographers. This southern tradition is really great idea, because of the rush of the wedding day itself, I’m lucky to get a few great shots of the bride by herself. It’s great to have some time to make sure a wedding dress is arranged perfectly, and pose and setup shots without the stress of the wedding day. The bride Shannon and her groom Lawrence were able to get married last weekend in a private home ceremony. Because …

Cute pose with the bride and groom - Wildhorse at Parker Farms

Small social distancing wedding at the Wildhorse at Parker Farms

Jennifer and Matt were planning on having over 100 guests and a large wedding party for thier spring wedding at the Wildhorse at Parker Farms wedding venue. We were all told at first that the COVID-19 coronavirus wasn’t going to be a big deal in the US, but as the March 21st wedding date approached, things kept looking worse. A few weeks before, they told me the wedding was still on, but the guest list was going to be much smaller. Soon after that, all the groomsmen except for the best man, had to drop out because of flight and …

Tamron 35mm f1.4 Side View -

Wedding review of the new Tamron SP 35mm F/1.4 Di USD Nikon Lens

First of all, this isn’t a detailed technical review of the new Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 lens. There are plenty of those out there already. This is my real-world experience with the lens, shooting a couple of weddings, bridal portraits and some family pictures. Since I’m stuck inside with the COVID-19 stay at home orders, I decided it was a good time to post my thoughts on this new lens. I will update this post if anything changes in my option after “hopefully” shooting many more weddings later this year. Some background on my use of prime lenses for weddings …

Closeup portrait of man and woman looking into each other's eyes. - Huntington Beach State Park

Spring engagement season in Myrtle Beach

March is always busy time in Myrtle Beach for engagement pictures with couples getting married later in the year. I just wanted to post some quick pictures from two recent engagement session. To see more of my recent sessions follow me on Facebook and Instagram. Pamela and Mike – Engagement pictures at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club Pamela and Mike wanted a garden look to their engagement pictures with a lot of oak trees and moss. Their first thought was Brookgreen Gardens, however I explained the extra cost and suggested the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club as an alternative. Caledonia …

Bride and groom standing by the ocean - Grande Dunes Ocean Club - Myrtle Beach

Jess and Adam’s springtime ceremony on the pool patio at the Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach

We had a hot and windy day at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach for this May wedding. I started out getting some great shots with Wing Wong of Salon and Spa 18 doing the bride’s hair. I also got to work with Luminous Event Films for the first time, he was great to work with as well. It’s always nice when the photographer and videographer can get along really well. Broadway Jake was the DJ, Croissants Bistro and Bakery made the cake, and Flowers in the Forest did the beautiful bouquets and flowers. I have all these …

Embracing under the moss on the boardwalk - Conway Riverwalk

One Year Anniversary photos at the Conway Riverwalk for my previous wedding clients

I had a great time this past weekend taking pictures for Ornelie and Matt, my previous wedding clients . I shot both their engagement pictures and their beautiful African themed wedding at the River Ridge Golf Course in Raleigh, NC. Since their engagement pictures were at the beach, Ornelie wanted a different look for their one year anniversary session. I suggested the Conway Riverwalk. I’ve been doing a lot of weddings and engagement pictures in Conway recently and I love taking portraits in this area. Romantic portraits on the moss covered boardwalk and Waccamaw River docks I started out with …
