It’s been a while since I’ve photographed a wedding at the Pine Lakes Country Club in Myrtle Beach, so it was very nice to be back. Alexandra and Derek, the bride and groom, are both school teachers. A lot of the wedding decorations and details featured books and related items. I especially liked the classic typewriter they had on the entrance table with a poem typed out on the paper. I used the poem and books for some cool macro shots of the rings. The seating assignment cards for the guests were made to look like a library card catalog and the flowers on the tables had petals made from book pages. I had fun going around and getting detail pictures of all the unique decorations.
I recently passed the FAA Part 107 exam to use small unmanned aircraft or “drones” commercially. It’s actually a pretty difficult test, you have to learn how to read airport charts and understand all the different types of airspaces as well as many other things. I’m not actually charging anyone for drone pictures at the moment, but I’m trying to arrive at weddings a little early and take some aerial shots of the location. I only spent about 10 min doing it when I arrived, but it was enough to get some cool overhead shots of the clubhouse and the ceremony location. As I get more experience I might try doing other things with the drone but for now my plan is just taking location shots.
The only thing difficult about this wedding, it was an extremely hot and humid July afternoon. I think everyone was dripping from sweat by the end of the ceremony but we made it through. I was hoping for a really pretty sunset that day, but it ended up becoming overcast when we went back out for sunset pictures. Having the pretty clubhouse as a background as well as some fun large balloons helped to make up for the lack of a sunset. I hope you enjoy the pictures below, let me know in the comments if you do!
