I recently photographed the wedding of April and Zach at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club. They were such a happy and fun couple. She had a beautiful canvas print of one of these bridal portraits at the wedding, and it reminded me that I could post some of her pictures now that everyone had seen the dress.
It’s a lot of fun taking bridal portraits at Pawleys Plantation. I’ve shot so many weddings there, I know the best spots depending on the time of the year and the direction of the sunset. This portrait session being back in February, the sunlight doesn’t filter through the trees in front of the clubhouse in the same way it does in the summer. However, it’s the perfect direction for warm backlighting of the old moss-covered oaks out on the golf course.
Annie, the event manager at the clubhouse, always provides a golf cart for me to take the bride out on the course for pictures. I usually start with a few bridal portraits on a hill overlooking the back of the clubhouse. Although I didn’t this time, I typically also take some pictures by the lake with the fountain. Next, I like to head out to a spot on the marsh to the side of the golf course with the beautiful old oak trees. The branches of the oaks make a beautiful frame around the bride for the portraits.
Finally, I like to finish up on one of the greens overlooking the marsh on Pawleys Island. I loved the poses April was doing, pulling her veil out to the side and letting it blow in the wind.
