Wedding and reception at Wild Wing Plantation in Conway, SC

I especially like to make a blog post when I photograph a wedding at a new venue or location. This was my first time going to the Wild Wing Plantation Clubhouse for a wedding on the golf course. This wedding actually took place back in mid July. I’ve been so busy over the summer, I’m just now getting back to posting some pictures on my blog. Many more weddings will be coming soon.

Wild Wing Plantation has an elegant clubhouse with a large central stairway. This leads to a big upstairs room for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready in. The groom and groomsmen also have a large private area that is downstairs near the bar. I always like when everyone is getting ready in the same general area. When I’m shooting a wedding solo like with this one, it makes it easy for me to go back and forth for pictures. This bride and groom were a little bit older and had their children as party of the wedding. I got some great shots of the groom’s son helping his dad and the bride’s daughter helping her get ready as well.

Ceremony on the Golf Course

The ceremony was held out back on the golf course, directly behind the clubhouse. It’s always great working with the officiant Eric Hunt. On a hot day like this one in July, he knows how to keep everything moving. We had a fun, casual ceremony that was long enough for me to get plenty of pictures, but short enough so no one passed out from the heat. I loved the way everyone wore the matching white sunglasses. Even walking down the aisle towards the ceremony everyone was having a great time.

After the ceremony, we went over to some beautiful nearby oak trees. Here we had plenty of shade for the family and bridal party pictures. Shade is the main thing I’m looking for when doing pictures on a hot, sunny day like this one. I let the bride and groom head directly to the reception after the family pictures. I knew we would be coming back out for the two of them at sunset, and everyone desperately needed to cool off.

Reception in the Ballroom

The reception at Wild Wing Plantation was held in the ballroom in the back of the clubhouse. This room is full of light and surrounded by windows overlooking the golf course. It’s a very pretty area for a smaller wedding like this one. I don’t think I would recommend it for more that about 100 guests or it might start getting crowded. This is a perfect size though for many destination weddings in Myrtle Beach. After some fun toasts, dinner and first dances, I took the bride and groom back out for sunset pictures.

Sunset pictures on the golf course and lakes

By this point of the evening, it was so much cooler, and the bride and groom were much more relaxed. We first headed back to the large oak trees on the golf course. There was some beautiful sunlight filtering through the branches. This made some great background bokeh for pictures of the two of them, and some portraits of just the bride.

The staff had provided me a golf cart and showed me some nice photo spots earlier that day. We hopped on the carts and went around to some of these pretty locations on the golf course. My favorite spot was down by one of the lakes with the sunset reflecting in the water. There is also a large boardwalk and dock down by the amenities center with a pretty white bridge in the background.

After the romantic sunset portraits, we went in for some fun dancing and partying the rest of the evening. This was a fun wedding with a large collection of dancers from the teenagers to grandparents. I always love when everyone gets on the dance floor and has a great time.
